Multi-track select to add/remove from playlists, queues etc

Please add the ability to select several tracks from an album to add at once to a playlist. Similarly selecting several tracks from a playlist or the queue to be deleted would save a lot of time. currently it seems that each track has to be added or deleted individually. iPeng allowed the selection of several tracks.

Do note that multi-track select to REMOVE tracks from a playlist already exists; you just need to edit the playlist.
So, the question is more a case of multi-track select to ADD to queues/playlists, so where would this be most useful? The full Tracks view? Now Playing view? We need to be mindful that further options like this take up extra icons and space on the UI, which is already restricted on space in the context of something like an iPhone SE.

Fair enough. It works a bit differently but yes, using the edit function works well to remove multiple tracks. To add tracks however, this is needed for example when you want to add say a symphony or a number of tracks from a search: for example I do a search on "Samba" and I want to select some of the results to create a playlist. Currently it is a one by one job. For partial albums, a workaround consists of adding the whole album to the playlist and then removing the trackers not wanted... rather cumbersome. So I would say selecting multiple tracks in Albums, tracks, and search results would be great. For interface efficiency, you could use the "edit" icon or another little icon, and once pressed place a checkmark in front of each track to select like in the split album function...

Thanks for the feedback Guardajoias. On average, would you say you often have situations where you need to be adding perhaps 10, 15 or more at a time, or you usually adding perhaps just 4 or 5 tracks?

M

Definitely 10 or more, especially from search results...

Yep, albums, tracks and search results, and ideally being able to then add to playlist, add to queue, play next or playmix....

Beyond the planned music library management screen. Multi-selecting of Tracks and Albums needs to be on every screen in Sense. A proper contextual menu would then appear for favoring, playlist creation, metadata editing, etc.

Merged with: Multi select tracks

At present tracks must be selected and added, or removed, one by one from the queue or a playlist. It would be very convenient to be able to select several tracks from an album or a list, and add them, or remove them, in bulk from the queue or a playlist. This is available on iPeng for example.

This is worth investigating; we have now added multi-album select and multi-artist select, so adding something similar for tracks is logical. We'd lean more towards for the purpose of adding to playlists and so on, rather than also having an option to deletion in the same context menu as that could be dangerous.

There is a danger attached but surely that could be offset by the use of an “Undelete” function?

For my part I’m not a great user of playlists but would definitely like the option to take out specific tracks via delete or “Never Play”.

Linked to this it would be useful to have an option to play tracks in a specific order e.g. where the CD or streaming version doesn’t match the original vinyl track listing order. At the moment I have to create a playlist to replicate the vinyl. Would be much easier to be able to permanently programme certain albums to always play tracks in a specified order.

We may be thinking of delete in different terms; delete as in 'remove' is not so bad, but i was thinking in terms of deleting (ie destroying) an actual file saved in the server. An undelete for this becomes much more complex. Either way, a multi-track select in the context of a playlist to remove tracks is fair, equally a multi-track select within the context of editing an album to delete tracks would be safely separate from that.
In terms of changing the track order in a fairly permanent way, this would be difficult in the context of streamed albums from Qobuz etc. On stored music it would at least be possible to edit the track numbers to your preferred sequence. Food for thought, either way.

Hasn’t occurred to me to edit via track number. Will try that once home from holidays.

I never intended this to be for deleting files: it is just the ability to add or remove several tracks at once to or from a playlist. Doing so track by track is just painful...

This is now implemented for Artists and Albums, though not tracks. Editing subject title to match this accordingly.

M

guardajoias

Yes, I hope it is simple to extend the ability to tracks...

This is a more debatable question. Most time on the app is spending browsing, not editing. We want to keep the app intuitive with not a lot of options popping up from everywhere. We understand some people are more power-users than others but every option and possibility adds complexity. It is our goal to keep the UI simple and clean and this is why we would prefer to keep mass operations on a different section.

Would be very useful as a pain creating two long playlists I want to start and maintain

N

Yes trying to create a few long playlists and gave up doing it one by one

Yes, this would be a very helpful capability! I've upvoted all forms of bulk database editing in general. This is especially powerful when dealing with large databases.

Sounds useful indeed.
Duplicate of the following I think though?

Yes. I originally thought the request was lost as there was a delay in posting. The more I create playlists the more I think it is needed: adding a 10-track symphonic work is painstaking. Multiple track selection is a must!
